Muay Thai and Kickboxing are
very similar styles. We focus more on Muay Thai but use the name
Kickboxing as well because it's more self-explanatory. Some of the main
differences are; Kickboxing generally allows strikes using the hands and
feet / shins. Muay Thai allows strikes using all of the above plus elbows
and knees, and also allows takedowns and "clinching" (one fighter or both
may grab their opponents head to control their balance and/or set up a
strike or takedown). Muay Thai may be considered more extreme than
kickboxing.
At Fighting Dragons we encourage students to work to their max potential.
In Muay Thai that means they push hard but at the same time with caution.
As a professional school of martial arts we know the importance of
realistic training, but also know the limits of our students. We do
everything we can to ensure the safety of our students. The students are
required to demonstrate a positive attitude and to work with each other,
not against each other. In other words, "punch and kick hard... not to
hurt each other, but to learn and help each other learn."
With great trainers (Head Instructor Brandon Armer, assisted by Arby - see
instructors page), good students, and a beautiful, clean facility, there
is no better place to learn Muay Thai / Kickboxing than Fighting Dragons!
A lot of people have been calling and asking about this class... Please
understand this is a serious Muay Thai / Kickboxing class meant for
potential fighters. If you have heard how great it is for losing weight,
you're absolutely right! Anyone can do this class. However, if you're
looking strictly to lose weight and don't want to become a fighter, you
might also consider our Cardio Classes (more like Cardio Kickboxing - not
for fighting).
